First Round Debating Competition

Killygarry participated in the first round of the Primary Schools Debating Competition, organised by Monaghan Education Centre. Pupils from The Vale NS, Bailieborough travelled to our school to debate with us that "Children in 5th and 6th class should have mobile phones". Killygarry were against the motion. Both teams put forward excellent arguments and were very convincing. In the end, Killygarry were the winners, but as the adjudicator from Monaghan said, they were all winners, because they had learned to stand up in front of a large audience and deliver a speech, which will stand to them all their lives.
Killygarry will now go on to the second round, where they will be debating whether or not people should keep pets.

U-13 County Cavan Champs!

A huge well-done to the boys Under-13 Killygarry GAA team, who won their county final against Butlersbridge on Thursday last. It was a fantastic match, with excellent skills displayed by both teams. There were 7 boys from our class on the team. Well done Ben, Cian, Connor, Dylan, Jack, James and Patrick. They will be receiving their medals at the Club's celebration night on Saturday.

Cross country running

Eleven pupils from our class participated in the County Cavan cross-country running championships on Wed 12th November. Well done to all, especially the girls' team who came third in their category.

Don't argue with this lot!

Fourth, fifth and sixth class were battling it out for a place on the school debating team on Friday. The topic was "All children should have a mobile phone". Aisling, Brianna and Joanne were picked for the debating team, but the standard of debating was high and any one of the participants could easily have been picked for the team.

Hallowe'en Antics

We had great fun on Hallowe'en: we were ducking for money (well done Cian Smith!), playing snap-apple, playing the grape and the flour game and using the saucers to tell our future. Here are some of the pictures:

scary baby!

Don't drown Bello!

That's nice make-up

Open wide!

Quite the headache!

Don't let that grape fall!

Will it be marriage, travel, or the priesthood?

Scary little-red-riding-hood!

Pat Ryan Tournament winners

The boys in our Cumann na mBunscol team won their match against Knocktemple and got through to the final in Breffni Park on Saturday 18th October. Although the game didn't go our way this time, each and every boy played their hearts out and gave it their all. Well done to each and every one of you.

Then on Monday, the same team went to Breffni Park for the Pat Ryan Memorial Tournament. Pat Ryan was a former principal in St Felim's BNS, Cavan, who unfortunately passed away in recent years and a tournament is played between the Cavan parish schools annually in his name. This year Killygarry were victorious. Well done boys!

We've just uploaded our video "Chemistry Capers" onto the "Reel Life Science" website. It's a competition for primary and secondary schools in which the pupils make a three minute science video. Our's is all about chemical reactions and how to recognise when they are taking place. Have a look!

Welcome to sixth class!

Welcome back everyone. It's the beginning of your last year in Killygarry NS and we have an action-packed year ahead. This term we'll be rehearsing for the Peace Proms- a large gathering of school choirs which takes place in Dublin in January. We're going to have gaelic football, camogie, swimming lessons, cross-country running and debating. We'll also be putting on a Christmas Concert this year, with sixth class playing a  pivotal role. And that's just the first term!
In class, you'll all be working even harder this year- with more expected of you in every way. But I know you're ready for it and I'm looking forward to seeing what you can achieve.
So I hope everyone's ready to roll up their sleeves and work really hard, to make the most of your last year in National School and to reach your potential in every way!

See you on Monday!
